James Mathias Mullaly Fifth Generation -Michael J.'s second son
James Mathias Mullaly was born 23 April 1906 in Minneapolis, Hennipen Co., MN. [doc 22] With Mathias as his middle name, Jim was named for his grandfather & uncle on his mother's side. [pic 31] Pictured here is Jim with his older brother Neil [pic 39]
Jim is pictured with his older borther Neil & Mother, Christine. [pic 14] Jim worked for the A1 Construction Company on a defence project in the Arctic for the War
Department during WW2. He received a letter written 27 May 1943 by War Department in commenation for doing his part in the successful project. [doc 23]
James Mathias Mullaly married Marie Ernestine Johnson
(5.20) on 14 Aug. 1940 in St. Paul, MN, by a Catholic Priest. [doc 24 + doc 25] Marie E. was born on 26 Nov. 1898 in Iowa to the parents of Mrs. & Mrs.Edward S. Johnson. Marie worked at the Pioneer Tobacco
& Candy Co. as a bookeeper when she meet James.
Marie was crippled by illness shortly after they were married. Marie and Jim had no children.
Marie E. (Johnson) Mullaly died at age 79 on 22
March 1977 in St. Paul, at the Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, Ramsey Co., MN. She was set in state on the 26 March 1977 at the Listoe & Wold Mortuary at 531 So. Snelling Ave., St. Paul and buried at
Roselawn Cemetery, Roseville, Ramsey Co., MN. At the time of her death, Jim and Marie lived at 1886 Portland Ave., St. Paul, MN. [doc 26]
James Mathias Mullaly died on 11
Sept. 1982, at age 73. He was then living in the apartment above the family grocery store that he owned and operated on Pelum & Mertle, in St. Paul, MN. He was buried at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery
in Minneapolis, MN next to his mother and father, Michael J. & Christine L. Mullaly
