Michael Joseph Mullaly Forth Generation - (first son of Patrick) Moved to Minneapolis/St. Paul
Michael Joseph Mullaly, born 20 May 1875 in Essex Co., NY. His parents were Patrick D. & Mary J. Mullaly. Michael was named after his paternal grandfather, Michael Mullaly.
Michael J. was listed at age 5 in the 1880 Federal Census for Ticonderoga, Essex Co., NY with his father, Patrick,
as head of the household. Michael J. moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1898 and worked there as a Grocery Salesman. He delivered groceries with two horses and a buggy.
He was outside in all types of weather and it is speculated that his health suffered because of it.

After meeting Christine Louise Caspers on a grocery delivery route, Michael J. married Christine before 1903.

Louise (Caspers) Mullaly was born on 23 Oct. 1877 at the Midway Hospital in Eureka Township (Lakeville), Dakota Co., MN.
Mathias Caspers, Catherine's father, was born in Weisbaum, Germany on 20 July
1827. During the Civil War, he enlisted with the federal army and served as a private soldier, accompanying Gen. McClelland during his campaign thru the south.
picture 31 Mathias Casper is pictures with his great-grandson, Cornelius/Neil Peter Mullaly at about age 2 in 1905. Mathias Casper died 6 April 1909 at the home of his daughter Mrs. M. J. Mullaly in Minneapolis, MN.
Mary (Schneider, Stehly) Schneider, Catherine's mother, was born in 1840 and died on 28 Feb. 1880. Mary is pictured in the late 1870's.
Mathias & Mary Caspers had four children:
Michael J. Caspers, Peter F. Caspers, Mathias A. Caspers, and Miss Catherine L. Caspers.
Miss Catherine Caspers was pictured in the late 1800's with her brother Peter Caspers and some friends.
Christine could have been 15 yrs old at the time.
Michael J. Mullaly and his horse, Gay Edgar, raced many victorious races at the Minnesota State Fair. The family holds a picture of Michael J. driving
his cart.
Michael J. Mullaly died on the 18 June 1915 in Minneapolis, Hennipen Co., MN at the age of 40. He was buried at the St. Mary's cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
In 1923, Widow Christine received
financial help from a friend and opened a corner grocery store on 715 Pelum Blvd., St. Paul, MN.
To convert the corner house into a store on the first floor, a steel beam was added for support after the inside walls were torn out. Sons Neil (age 20) & Jim (age 17) would take turns through the years helping their mother at the store.
Christine Louise (Caspers) Mullaly died on 20 Dec. 1953 at the Midway Hospital in St. Paul, Ramsey Co., MN at the age of 76.
She was buried next to her husband, Michael J., at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
Michael J. & Christine L. had two children:
- Cornelius/Neil Peter Mullaly
- James Mathias Mullaly.
